Maidir Linne / About Us

The DFW Gaelic League is a non-profit organization dedicated to teaching and promoting the Irish Language (Gaeilge) in North Texas.

We offer weekly classes (usually free), a yearly "immersion weekend" featuring fluent guest teachers, and are active in the North Texas Irish-American community. We have a booth at the North Texas Irish Festival and our members can be found in lots of other groups.

Wait, I remember a Conradh na Gaeilge in Dallas in the 1990s...are you them?

Yes and no.

No because that Organization's 501(c)(3) non-profit status lapsed. We've had to do all that paperwork all over again. So, as far as the State of Texas and the IRS is concerned we're a different group "on paper." Also a lot of the teachers and members from before have moved away or found other interests that keep them busy (for instance family/kids that they might not have had before or perhaps a new career). We also have our own domain name now instead of cozy corner of the Geocities (now Reocities) website.

Yes because several of the officers from before have come back to help refound the group. For example, Kevin Buckley was the President before and he's the Treasurer now. Seamus Hickey was the Director of Education before and he "carried the torch" during the seven year "lapse" of the early 2000s (he continued Irish Language classes). He still helps teach the Dallas class from time to time. Also, and some might say this is the "real" bottom line... we have the old bank account (that information and the old funds were not lost). We also have the old vinyl green banner that we carried in parades and took to the yearly NTIF.

So depending on how you judge such things, we're either the same or different. We consider ourselves the same group (we just had to redo some paperwork). Either way, now you know the story. If you were a member "before" we'd love to have you back. We've kept the candle burning.
